What the hand-forging process looks like

Forged with the craftsman’s signature

If you would like to see how our knowledge and experience are transformed into finished products, we invite you to explore our webshop.

By forging the metal, the blade is shaped by hand, during which the material becomes structurally bonded, achieving greater toughness and—through hardening—higher hardness. This ensures durability and long-lasting performance in use. Hardening is carried out manually and tailored to each individual product, depending on the type of steel and its carbon content.

Due to the stresses that occur during hardening, experience and precision are essential to achieve the right balance between hardness and flexibility. The subsequent heat treatment is a crucial part of the final process that defines the finished product.

Handles are handcrafted from walnut wood and assembled using rivets we make ourselves. The process is 100% manual, and each product is forged with the goal of long-lasting performance, edge retention, and reliable everyday use.

One of only seven master blacksmiths in Croatia

Baja belongs to a small circle of active master blacksmiths in Croatia who hold formal certification and are continuously engaged in traditional blacksmithing.

Zero compromise in materials and metal craftsmanship

No substitute materials, no shortcuts in the process, and no mass-production logic — every piece goes through the full blacksmithing process.

Family blacksmith workshop

Blacksmithing tradition since 1987

I inherited my passion for blacksmithing from my father. We have been practicing this craft since 1987, when he first began, and we officially opened our workshop in 2004. Today, we are one of the few remaining and more modern blacksmith workshops in the region—a place people are happy to visit.

Through our craft, we nurture a love for metal and create traditional handcrafted items, preserving the blacksmithing heritage of our area. There was a time when our village alone had five blacksmiths.

On April 19, 2013, I passed the master craftsman exam and became one of the few certified master blacksmiths in Croatia. Over the years, we have received numerous awards and recognitions for our work at craft fairs.

Baja is a small but modern blacksmith workshop with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Our machines are properly grounded and connected to a ventilation system that collects dust into a dedicated container. By using LED lighting, we have significantly reduced electricity consumption. The forge hood is equipped with a heating system that utilizes excess heat to warm other working areas.

Over time, we have expanded our production and services in line with market and customer needs. Our range includes more than 50 types of cleavers, knives, roasting scissors, various types of hoes, and other custom-made products. Production is primarily based on manual work, most often in small batches.

All our products are forged, giving them clear advantages over industrially manufactured tools. Sheaths and rivets for each cleaver are made by hand, using the same methods my father used more than thirty years ago.
Our products have a soul—like bread baked in the wood-fired ovens of our grandparents.

Recognitions and awards

For our work, we have received numerous awards and commendations for participating in various craft fairs in Osijek, Virovitica, Bjelovar, Zagreb, Gospić, Benkovac, Zadar, Split, and more. At the Osijek Fair, we were awarded the Golden Plaque in recognition of preserving traditional values, as well as a certificate of appreciation f

Our clients and partners

Our hand-forged knives and cleavers are used by numerous companies, restaurants, butcher shops, and food producers across Croatia. We are proud to collaborate with partners who recognize the quality of craftsmanship and the long-lasting performance of our products.
